Sus esfuerzos condujeron al desarrollo de una resina basada en el injerto de pol\u00edmero de acrilonitrilo en mol\u00e9culas de almid\u00f3n, lo que dio lugar a un nuevo material absorbente capaz de absorber m\u00e1s de 400 veces su peso sin liberar agua l\u00edquida a presi\u00f3n.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Simult\u00e1neamente, empresas japonesas, que no participaban en las investigaciones del USDA, iniciaron estudios independientes con almid\u00f3n, carboximetilcelulosa (CMC), \u00e1cido acr\u00edlico, alcohol polivin\u00edlico (PVA) y anh\u00eddrido isobutilen maleico (IMA).<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En la d\u00e9cada de 1970, el SAP se utiliz\u00f3 comercialmente por primera vez, principalmente en productos higi\u00e9nicos desechables en lugar de para sus aplicaciones originales de enmienda del suelo.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El gran avance se produjo en 1982, cuando el SAP se incorpor\u00f3 a los pa\u00f1ales para beb\u00e9s en Europa, y poco despu\u00e9s UniCharm lo introdujo en los pa\u00f1ales superabsorbentes para beb\u00e9s en Jap\u00f3n.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Desde entonces, los avances tecnol\u00f3gicos han reducido el uso del pol\u00edmero superabsorbente injertado con almid\u00f3n en los productos higi\u00e9nicos desechables, siendo ahora la mayor\u00eda de los superabsorbentes homopol\u00edmeros acr\u00edlicos reticulados (normalmente neutralizados con sodio) en estos productos.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En cambio, los superabsorbentes utilizados para aplicaciones de enmienda del suelo suelen ser copol\u00edmeros acr\u00edlico-acrilamida reticulados (normalmente neutralizados con potasio).
