Leurs efforts ont abouti \u00e0 la mise au point d'une r\u00e9sine bas\u00e9e sur le greffage d'un polym\u00e8re d'acrylonitrile sur des mol\u00e9cules d'amidon, ce qui a donn\u00e9 naissance \u00e0 un nouveau mat\u00e9riau absorbant capable d'absorber plus de 400 fois son poids sans lib\u00e9rer d'eau liquide sous pression.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Simultan\u00e9ment, des entreprises japonaises, non impliqu\u00e9es dans les recherches de l'USDA, ont entam\u00e9 des \u00e9tudes ind\u00e9pendantes sur l'amidon, la carboxym\u00e9thylcellulose (CMC), l'acide acrylique, l'alcool polyvinylique (PVA) et l'anhydride mal\u00e9ique d'isobutyl\u00e8ne (IMA).<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dans les ann\u00e9es 1970, les SAP ont \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9s pour la premi\u00e8re fois dans le commerce, principalement dans des produits hygi\u00e9niques jetables plut\u00f4t que pour les applications d'amendement des sols auxquelles ils \u00e9taient destin\u00e9s \u00e0 l'origine.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La perc\u00e9e a eu lieu en 1982 lorsque le SAP a \u00e9t\u00e9 incorpor\u00e9 dans les couches pour b\u00e9b\u00e9s en Europe, suivi de peu par son introduction dans les couches pour b\u00e9b\u00e9s super absorbantes au Japon par UniCharm.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les progr\u00e8s technologiques ont depuis lors r\u00e9duit l'utilisation de polym\u00e8res super absorbants greff\u00e9s sur l'amidon dans les produits hygi\u00e9niques jetables, la plupart des super absorbants \u00e9tant d\u00e9sormais des homopolym\u00e8res acryliques r\u00e9ticul\u00e9s (g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement neutralis\u00e9s au sodium) dans ces produits.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En revanche, les superabsorbants utilis\u00e9s pour l'amendement des sols sont souvent des copolym\u00e8res acrylique-acrylamide r\u00e9ticul\u00e9s (g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement neutralis\u00e9s au potassium).
